A squash ball is a perfect fit in a human eye socket. Serious eye injury can be avoided by wearing protective eye wear.
Juniors players are encouraged to wear protective eyewear at all times and they
are mandatory at all United Matamata Squash junior tournaments.
United Matamata Squash stock the iMask (see below) which can be purchased from the club at a cost of $79.00.
Children can start squash at any age, however they must be at least nine years old to take part in the junior coaching program.
Juniors progress from grades J4 up to J1, however many juniors pick up the game very quickly and will often progress straight through to the senior grades F, E2, E1, D2 upwards.
Coaching is on Monday nights with beginners commencing at 6pm and the more experienced junior players at 7pm.
Parent help is needed for these nights as often there is a large number of juniors attending. If you are able to help out and/or have a child that wants coaching, simply turn up at the courts on Monday nights. Children must be members to benefit from the free coaching.
United Matamata Squash is committed to helping develop the skills of junior members.
Coaching is available for all junior members on Monday nights. This is fully funded by the Club, although parent help is encouraged.
Matt Scholefield runs the junior clincs, in conjunction with Innovative Squash Waikato, with the beginners from 6pm to 7pm. Intermediate 7pm to 8pm.
