General Information:

Welcome to United Matamata Squash Club and what you can expect from a membership:

The year kicks off with business house starting in late January & running for 6 weeks. This is a fun event, where beginners are encouraged to be included in every team. The club captains can find you a team if you are not able to put together one.   

Our membership year is 1st April until 31st March.  Please refer to the membership tab for information on becoming a member with social and competitive options available. 

Squash Waikato organizes 3 rounds of Interclub per year. The Autumn round starting early March (6 weeks) followed by Winter (typically 12 weeks) and Spring (6 weeks). Interclub is a team event (3-4 players) played on Tuesday evenings for men and Wednesday for ladies. If you are keen to represent the club in Interclub you will need a competitive membership, and club captains will put together the teams approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of each competition.  

The club also runs 2 major tournaments a year. The A2 & below in March and the Matamata Open in June.

Juniors coaching with Alisha is Monday afternoons, for 6 week period every term, starting the second Monday of term at 4.30pm. Beginners welcome. Ladies night follows on after Juniors on Monday evenings, with coaching available during the 6 weeks that Alisha is running juniors. 

Club nights are every Thursday starting at 6.00pm. Simply text the club phone early in the week with your name and you are in. We do try to match you up with a player of similar skills however from time to time this may not happen so please be considerate to all opponents as club night is about fun. Typical etiquette is for the winner to buy their opponent a drink, and you ref the following game together.  

The kitchen is open on club nights with interclub teams rostered on kitchen duty in lieu of paying Interclub fees, which the club pays. Generally, the team is on a 8-9 week roster so when it is your turn, please support your captain and help out in the kitchen. 

In August/September we hold the Calcutta event for  the Kerry McKinley Trophy.  This is your opportunity to pitch yourself against some top club players under a strict handicap system. This is a fun event but certainly a much sort after & valued trophy to hold. 

Club Champs along with a dinner & prizegiving night is held at the end of the competitive season, usually October, and this is when members are recognized not only for their squash ability but what they have contributed to our club throughout the year 

Our AGM is also usually around this time where we elect a new committee. Being on the committee is a great way to better understand the club, have your ay on how things could be done, and help with the many small jobs that crop up, such as managing the kitchen or bar supplies, social media, uniforms, sponsorship and grants, quotes, IT, recycling, washing and maintenance.

The club encourages children to come along with their parents to events and are welcome to use the area set aside with a TV, toys and couches. They can also use the courts when not in use. At the end of the day though the responsibility of supervision lies with the parents. We cannot block off stairs as these are fire exits.  Please also ensure that toys are returned to play area and food plates are returned to the kitchen.

Recycling is carried out by club volunteers so please help them by ensuring the correct bottle etc goes in the correct bin and please take tops of plastic bottles before placing the bottle in the bin.
